Not that strokes are a good thing, but it's turning out to not be that bad either. She's recovering very well. The only lingering effects
seem to be her balance. Even that is getting better as she moves around more, but she still can't walk on her own.
This was a case where she pretty much did it to herself. My family is prone to high blood pressure, and SOP is to be on meds for it
by the time you hit 50. She stopped taking her meds about 3 months ago because she thought she had it under control. She started taking
sudafed last week because she thought she had sinus congestion. Turns out, she probably had very high blood pressure which was causing
sinus type headaches. She made it way worse by taking sudafed, who's active ingredient constricts blood vessels (decongestant).
So by the time she was admitted to the ER, her BP was 288/121 (many older BP cuffs don't read over 280 if that tells you anything)
At that point something was bound to give out. I'm just glad it was a small relief of pressure and not the alternative.
All is good though. I take her bp 4 times a day, and we're right around 140/98. Which is very manageable. She's on more meds than I can count
and it's a full time job keeping up with what she should be taking at what time, I think we have it all sorted now though.
I'm a little stir crazy already. She's sleeping a lot, so I've got tons of time and I've already cleaned her house and given the dog a bath...
Guess it's a good time to run up my post count.
